The good, the bad, and the ugly.

So we’re going to answer the question “is doTERRA a pyramid scheme”, as well as give you some practical steps to succeed in the business if you decide to move forward with it.

About doTERRA – A History

picture of doterra leadership

doTERRA is a health and wellness company that specialises in selling essential oils via direct sales or multi-level marketing.

The company was founded back in 2008 by former executives of Young Living, a competing health and wellness company.

The former Young Living executives who started doTERRA are David Stirling, Emily Wright, and David Hill.

You can learn about the circumstances that led to these executives being ousted from Young Living in this article.

David Stirling is the key face, owner, and CEO of doTERRA today.

Their main headquarters are located in Pleasant Grove, Utah, though they have over 100 offices worldwide including in Taiwan, Japan, Europe, and Australia.

doTERRA has experienced explosive growth over the years and currently has over 3 million independent sales reps in over 100 countries worldwide.

They do well over $1 billion in annual sales and their product line consists of over 150 products including dietary supplements, personal care items, and essential oils.

doTERRA Products

As we mentioned already, this company is best known for their doTERRA essential oils product line, but they do have a vast array of health and wellness products.

Let’s briefly discuss what this company sells.

After all, you will be selling this stuff if you end up deciding to move forward with this opportunity.

doTERRA Lifelong Vitality Pack

The Lifelong Vitality Pack is one of the better known products in doTERRA’s supplement line.

The video above talks about “starvation mode” which really is a misleading term as outlined in this Healthline article.

Be very careful when getting scientific “facts” from a company that has a vested interest in those “facts” being true.

Never blindly trust anything you see online, especially when it concerns your health or finances.

Instead, research and verify for yourself what is true.

doTERRA Veráge Skin Care Line

Veráge Skin Care is the most popular line of products in doTERRA’s personal care branch.

Their main claim, which they put a lot of focus on, is that the personal care products are all completely natural and contain zero toxins.

There is no reason to doubt these claims.

In fact, the French National Center for Scientific Research did a study on doTERRA products after their main competitor Young Living sued them in 2013 for allegedly stealing trade secrets.

Young Living also claimed that doTERRA was using synthetic ingredients in products that had been marketed as purely organic.

The courts ultimately ruled in doTERRA’s favor and Young Living was forced to pay all attorney costs on both sides.

doTERRA Essential Oils

This company is best known for its various essential oils.

You might be wondering…

How the heck do you use essential oils?

Basically, you will need to buy a device called a diffuser. This device is, of course, sold by doTERRA and can be bought through their website.

picture of doterra dissusers

You would add a few drops of the oil into the diffuser and just let it run. The diffuser will then dispense a tiny amount of the oils into the air you breath and you would theoretically reap the benefits.

Think of it like a healthier version of a Glade or Scentsy air freshener.

Other commonly used methods of consuming essential oils are:

  • Breathing them in directly from the bottles
  • Rubbing them directly onto your skin
  • Adding a drop or two into a glass of water and drinking

Are doTERRA Oils Good Quality?

doTERRA oils have certainly been well received by thousands of customers all over the world and have received overwhelmingly good reviews on Amazon.

They do also appear to be fully organic and all oils undergo a stringent testing regimen to ensure quality control before being sent to market.

So I guess the question is this: Is doTERRA a good brand?

Yes.

I am a fan of essential oils and I personally use dietary supplements on a daily basis.

Although I’ve never tried any doTERRA products myself. I have been using another brand for over 10 years which I love and have no plans of changing.

But if you personally know people who use doTERRA with good results, I would certainly feel comfortable recommending this brand.

Does doTERRA Really Work?

By and large, the claims made by most people selling essential oils have been exaggerated and overblown.

As stated in this Healthline article, essential oils are completely safe to use, but a lot more scientific research needs to be done in order to verify health claims that have yet to be substantiated.

So do essential oils actually work at all?

In regards to the essential oils, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence that suggests essential oils have tremendous benefits in reducing stress and anxiety and aiding in sleep.

Are doTERRA oils worth the price?

I believe so.

On the surface, they can appear very expensive on a per bottle basis.

But the truth is, one bottle of a doTERRA essential oil will last you a very long time.

It’s definitely cheaper than those toxic Glade air fresheners you buy at the local Wal-Mart!

Are Any Essential Oils FDA Approved?

picture of fda sign

Well, it really depends.

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) classifies essential oils under the category of aromatherapy.

As long as the company or its distributors don’t make unsubstantiated claims about the oils, the FDA doesn’t care.

For example, they can make reasonable claims in terms of skin health, mood enhancement, and general holistic health benefits.

But they can NOT claim that the oils will provide relief or cures to specific ailments.

Unfortunately, doTERRA distributors have a history of being a bit overly ambitious in their claims.

In 2014, the FDA sent a warning letter to doTERRA for allowing its distributors to market the products as treatments for autism, cancer, and even the deadly Ebola virus.

In 2020, some of doTERRA’s distributors were found to be making claims about the immune boosting properties of their essential oils and could lessen the effects of the COVID-19 virus.

After this, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) sent a warning to doTERRA about unfounded claims in regards to COVID-19 as well as exaggerated income claims.

In fairness, none of the unfounded claims were ever made by the company.

It was always exuberant, overly zealous independent distributors.

How Does The doTERRA Business Work?

As we talked about earlier, doTERRA is a health and wellness company that sells its products using a method known as direct sales, multi level marketing (MLM), or network marketing.

These terms are all used interchangeably.

So what exactly is network marketing?

businessman drawing mlm structure

Can you make money selling essential oils and how do doTERRA reps make money?

Unlike traditional business models, a network marketing company bypasses traditional marketing and distribution methods.

Instead of using traditional business practices, they give their own customers the opportunity to start a business by distributing their products into the economy.

This business model saves doTERRA millions in advertising costs and retail fees and allows them to pass those profits down to their customers.

When you sign up for the doTERRA business, you become an independent distributor.

doTERRA calls these distributors “Wellness Advocates”.

As a Wellness Advocate, you would earn a commission each time you acquire a customer and they make a purchase.

You don’t even need to stock any inventory if you don’t want to.

Your customers can simply log into their online account with doTERRA and order directly from the website.

And every time they do, you would earn a commission.

With network marketing, there are multiple ways in which you can earn money.

Not only can you earn commissions for each sale, but you can also build your own sales team.

If you know of anyone who is interested in earning money on the side and maybe even replacing their job, you would want to talk to them about signing up to become a Wellness Advocate.

This practice is called recruiting.

Every time you recruit a new Wellness Advocate, they will be added to your team.

And every time one of your team members makes a sale, you would earn commissions on those sales in addition to the sales you personally make.

So let’s say that one of your team members starts recruiting members and building their own team

Yes, you would earn commissions from those members as well.

diagram of network marketing structure

This is where things really start to become powerful.

When your team eventually gets big enough and hits a critical mass, it will start to grow without your efforts.

And your income can grow month after month.

True passive income.

Let me be very clear…

Getting to this point is not easy.

It takes a lot of work and dedication.

But many have done it successfully and you could too…

IF you decide to move forward with the doTERRA business.

So if you are successful, the shape of your organization will start to resemble a pyramid over time.

This is where many of the doTERRA pyramid scheme rumors come from.

It stems from a fundamental misunderstanding of what an actual pyramid scheme is and how legit network marketing differs.

We’ll talk more about the doTERRA scam and pyramid scheme allegations in a bit.

If you want to learn exactly what networking marketing is and why it could be a good option, you can read this detailed MLM overview here.

Now that you have a good idea of how doTERRA works…

Let’s talk about how much you can make selling essential oils.

doTERRA Compensation Plan

Now we have a rough idea of how network marketing works…

But how do you get paid?

Does doTERRA pay well?

And how does the commission structure work if you can get paid on sales made by people other than yourself?

There are 3 main types of compensation plans commonly used in network marketing:

  • Binary
  • Breakaway
  • Unilevel

To understand the difference between the 3 pay structures, you can find a comparison in the MLM overview article we mentioned earlier.

The doTERRA compensation plan is built on the Unilevel structure.

So let’s talk about what that means and how it works.

With a Unilevel compensation plan, you can build your team as wide as you want.

diagram of unilevel pay structure

Meaning that you can have as many people as you want directly underneath you in your organization, making sales and earning commissions for you.

So let’s talk cheddar…

Whenever one of your personal customers buys a doTERRA product, you will get a 25% commission.

But let’s say that you recruited a distributor who starts making sales.

You would earn a 2% commission for every single sale generated by that distributor.

Anybody that you personally recruit would be in Level 1 of your organization.

Now let’s say that some of your Level 1 folks started recruiting distributors and making sales.

Those new distributors would be in Level 2 of your organization. And sales made by these distributors would earn you a 3% commission every time.

Your team can grow to a maximum depth of 7 levels.

Let’s have a look at what the commission rates are for each level.

chart of doterra commission structure

You can see that your commission rates would increase with the depth of your organization.

You would be earning 7% commissions for every single sale made by any distributors on your 7th level.

This is actually different from most competitive MLM companies.

Most companies pay out lower commissions on the deeper levels.

But remember how we talked about your organization taking on a pyramid-like shape as your team grows?

picture of pyramid shaped organization

You can see that you will tend to have way more distributors in the deeper levels of your organization.

Meaning that as your business grows, your income will grow exponentially.

Let’s do some quick hypothetical math…

If you recruit 3 members…

And each of those recruits 3… Means you would have a total of 12 members.

Take that to the next level and each new member recruits 3. Now you have a total of 39 members.

Next level: 120.

Next level: 363.

And next: 1092.

And finally, with your 7th level: 3279.

Now to be honest, the numbers will never work out that nicely.

You will always have people who quit the business, or those who simply decide they just want to be a customer rather than a distributor.

And that’s fine.

But every once in a while, someone will join your team who is a rockstar and just crushes it with their business.

And you will reap some of those rewards as well.

All this to say…

Network marketing can be a very powerful business model if you’re willing to give it the time, hard work, and dedication that it requires.

How Does doTERRA Membership Work?

There are two types of memberships that you can buy from doTERRA.

The first one is the Wholesale Membership.

Think of this like a Costco membership.

You pay an annual fee which then entitles you to some benefits such as:

  • 25% discount
  • Loyalty rewards
  • Shipping reward points
  • Free products from time to time

So how much is a doTERRA membership?

To become a Wholesale Customer, you would have to pay an annual fee of $25.

The other membership tier is called Wellness Advocate.

As you know by now, “Wellness Advocate” is what doTERRA calls their distributors.

This membership makes you eligible to earn commissions when somebody buys products “through” you.

You will receive tools and training on how to be successful in the doTERRA business, plus everything that’s included in the Wholesale Customer membership.

To become a Wellness Advocate, you will need to pay a one-time fee of $35 in addition to the annual $25 membership price.

Which actually isn’t that bad.

So what about all these doTERRA pyramid scheme rumors??

Is doTERRA legit?

Well, let’s talk about it.

Is doTERRA A Pyramid Scheme?

toy story pyramid scheme meme

There are a few reasons that the doTERRA pyramid scheme rumours exist.

By far the biggest reason is that there have been numerous illegal Ponzi and pyramid schemes over the past few decades that have masqueraded as legitimate MLM companies.

These illegal Ponzi schemes hurt a lot of innocent people and therefore received a lot of negative press.

And because there is a fundamental misunderstanding of what network marketing really is…

These illegal scams have tarnished the reputation of network marketing, including the doTERRA business.

So how is doTERRA not a pyramid scheme?

To answer this, we first need to understand the difference between legitimate network marketing and pyramid schemes.

In a pyramid scheme, there are no real products or services being sold.

You would simply pay for a spot in a pyramid shaped organization. And you would be required to bring more people into the organization in order for you to get paid.

The fundamental problem with this is that there are no products being sold.

There is no value being provided.

Since nobody is receiving true value for their money, a pyramid scheme is always destined for collapse.

Every time.

The most basic principle of economics is that people trade value for value.

We trade money (value) for a product or service (value) that we want or need.

And this is what you need to understand about network marketing.

A real network marketing company like doTERRA sells products that people are willing to pay for regardless of the business opportunity that the company provides.

That vast majority of the revenue comes from customers who are not even involved with the business.

They simply buy the products because they love using them.

In fact, network marketing is not really that different from any other type of traditional business.

Like any other business, they sell products that people want to buy.

The main difference is the method by which the products are distributed into the real economy.

Instead of paying millions of dollars to expensive advertising agencies and retail fees to big box stores like Wal Mart and Target…

These companies choose instead to give their own customers the opportunity to build a large business for themselves.

It’s an opportunity for the little guy.

The regular Joe or Jane like you and me.

Many people still get hung up on the pyramid shape that a network marketing organization takes once it starts growing.

So if you still find yourself suspecting that doTERRA is a pyramid scheme…

Then have a look at what the shape of a corporate business looks like.

picture of the corporate pyramid scheme

You can see that traditional businesses take on this pyramid shaped structure as well…

The difference is that as a newly hired employee working in the shipping dock, you will never earn more money than the CEO of the company.

Unless you can work your way up the corporate ladder, displacing other workers along the way, and take the CEO’s job away from him.

With network marketing, you could certainly out-earn anybody that is above you in the organization…

As long as you perform better.

The thing with network marketing is that there is no guarantee of an income.

You only get paid for results.

That’s it.

And if your results are better than anybody above you in the organization, you will earn more money in the long run.

Without stomping on anyone or taking away anybody’s job.

Another Reason For doTERRA Scam Rumors

advice for scam victims sign

The truth is, there is a dark side of doTERRA.

This applies to any network marketing company.

You see, many network marketing companies tend to have a bit of a cult-like atmosphere in them.

Many of the distributors make unrealistic and exaggerated claims in regards to the products or income potential.

They tend to frame the opportunity as a solution to every conceivable problem you could ever have in your life.

They can be pushy, overzealous, and quite frankly, annoying.

So after an interaction with a Wellness Advocate, many people walk away with a really bad taste in their mouth.

They could be thinking to themselves:

“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. doTERRA is a scam. It has to be!”

This is a perfectly reasonable reaction to have after listening to an unprofessional presentation.

So the question is, why do the Wellness Advocates behave this way?

I believe the reason is due to the type of people that tend to join the business.

You see…

Because of the low barrier to entry, most of the people who join network marketing are just regular middle class folks like you and me.

They’re not professionals.

They’ve found this exciting new business opportunity and the thought of being able to escape the rat race and quit their job is so exciting to them.

Plus, they were likely recruited into the business by somebody else that misrepresented the opportunity.

And when they realize the amount of work and dedication that is actually required to build the business, they become desperate.

Pushy.

Obnoxious.

And thoroughly unattractive.

When you see one of your loved ones acting this way, you’d probably be worried about them.

You would think that they got roped into some type of cult.

Or scam.

And this is really where a number of the doTERRA scam rumors are born.

So to summarize: Is doTERRA a scheme?

No.

But if you decide to move forward with the doTERRA business, it will be very important for you to seek out good training so that you will be able to build your business in a professional manner.

You don’t want to be part of the problem.

Don’t contribute to the struggling reputation that network marketing already has.

Unlike all the other doTERRA reviews you’ll find, I want to share with you some advice that you can use to build your business the right way.

So that you can have staying power.

And build a long term business in a way that will not tarnish your own reputation or that of the company that you represent.

How To Grow Your doTERRA Business

training system cartoon

One of the problems that many new network marketers face is that they start viewing every one of their loved ones as a target.

You’re a tiger, on the hunt for another recruit.

This is the wrong attitude to have.

And the truth is…

People will see right through it.

If this is the way that you view your business, it will certainly put a heavy strain on your relationships.

You will find that most people will say “no” to your offer of starting their own business.

And you will begin to feel frustrated with the fact that nobody seems to understand the power of your new opportunity.

This is a mindset that you will HAVE to overcome.

Here are a few tips that you might find useful in your network marketing career.

Set Achievable Goals

Many network marketing trainers might teach you to set goals…

But often they will teach you to set the wrong type of goals.

For example…

They might encourage you to set a goal of recruiting one new business builder in your first month.

This is a bad approach.

Let’s think this through…

For you to recruit a new member into your team, you are relying on somebody else making a decision that you ultimately can not control.

So if you don’t reach your goal, you will feel as though you failed.

You will lose motivation and quickly lose any momentum you’ve built up.

Instead you should set a goal that is completely in your control.

For example…

Set a goal that you have to get at least 20 “no’s” per week.

This is completely in your control.

The reality is, the vast majority of the people you talk to about your business will simply not be interested.

That’s a fact.

And it’s OK.

But when you set this type of goal, you won’t lose motivation as quickly because you’re prepared for the “no”.

You knew it was coming and you know it has nothing to do with you personally.

Network marketing is simply a numbers game.

A small percentage of the people you talk to will be very interested in what you have to offer.

And if you talk to enough people, the numbers will start to work to your advantage over time.

Schedule Business Time

When you put together your doTERRA business plan, you should schedule your business activities ahead of time.

Think about it…

Everything we do that we consider valuable is scheduled in.

If you’ve committed to go to a friend’s wedding, you put it into your schedule.

And if something fun comes up on the same day of said wedding, you may have to make a sacrifice because you’ve already committed to going to your friend’s wedding.

You scheduled it in.

Your business should be the same way.

Figure out how much time you are willing and able to devote to your business, and put it into your calendar.

And if something fun comes up, you may have to sacrifice a fun evening because you’ve already committed to working on your business.

So how much time can you devote?

Is it 20 hours a week?

Or 4 hours a week?

Whatever it is, you need to put it in writing onto your calendar so that you will actually stick to it.

Don’t assume that you will always be motivated to work on your business after getting home from a long day’s work.

If you haven’t specifically designated time to work on your business, you will be easily derailed after a long day.

ONLINE doTERRA Business Building Guide

The best thing you can do to ensure your success in network marketing is to follow the training that you receive from your company.

Think about it…

The people in your upline have a vested interest in your success.

Because when you make money, they make money too.

They are going to be teaching you a system that truly has worked for many people in the past.

The only problem is, most network marketing companies do not teach online strategies.

And eventually, you will run out of people to talk to in your personal life.

When you reach this point, you could turn to the internet to keep your business growing.

We are living in the digital age after all, so it stands to reason that you would use all the tools available to you in order to grow your business.

Many people are very intimidated by internet marketing but the truth is, it’s actually quite simple when you break it down.

Yes, there are skills that you will need to learn.

But tens of thousands of people have come before you and successfully learned internet marketing.

These people are not any smarter than you are.

If they can do it, then you can too.

Internet marketing really only comes down to 3 steps.

1 – Build An Audience

facebook friend request image

If you want to be successful with internet marketing, you will need to make a mindset shift in how you view content online.

Instead of being just a consumer of content…

You will need to become a creator of content.

The point of creating content online is to become a thought leader.

An authority in whatever topic you are discussing.

Think about what kind of questions your potential customers are asking themselves.

And then start creating content online that answers those questions.

People turn to the internet for two reasons:

  • Entertainment
  • Education

If you want to build enough credibility with an audience that they will trust you when you recommend a product or business opportunity, then you should be focusing on educating people.

When one of your potential customers is asking themselves a question,…

You want to be the person that comes to their mind as someone who can provide an answer!

YouTube or social media are great places to start publishing content.

If you are too shy too put yourself out there in video format, you could start a blog.

Blogging can be just as effective as videos, if not more so.

2 – Build An Email List

email marketing picture

Your content marketing should be purely focused on providing value.

Give your audience exactly what they want, and nothing less.

Don’t blatantly pitch your product or opportunity in your content because that will ruin your trust and credibility.

But you have to make money, right?

That’s where an email list comes in.

You need to find a way to entice people to join your email list.

You can do this by creating a free gift that you will give away for completely free…

In exchange for an email address.

Once people are on your list, you should still continue to provide value.

You really want people to open every email you send.

You want them to look forward to your emails because of the massive value that you provide.

3 – Recruit Folks Into Your Business

picture of mlm organization

As we discussed, you need to make money.

Every now and then, you can send out an email that includes a call to action.

Either you offer a product, or ask them to have a look at your business presentation.

If you have done an adequate job of building trust and credibility, most people will not be too upset with the odd sales pitch.

I would recommend keeping your emails mostly value based though.

80% value, 20% offers is a pretty good ratio to stick to.

Makes sense?

Good.

But to be honest, this is a pretty simplified explanation of internet marketing.

There are more intricacies to it than just these 3 steps, but it’s a good 10,000 foot overview of how an online business works.

Is doTERRA A Good MLM? | Pros & Cons

picture of man contemplating

Till now, we really haven’t talked much about the negative sides to the doTERRA MLM business.

Is doTERRA a good MLM?

Is doTERRA a legitimate company to build a long term career?

We’ll touch on some of these concerns…

But first let’s talk about the cons of the doTERRA business.

doTERRA MLM CONS

There are some negative aspects to the doTERRA business which apply to basically all network marketing companies.

These are going to pose challenges for you along the way if you decide to move forward with this business model.

1 – Bad Public Perception

When you are trying to recruit people into your business, you will find that many folks are extremely sceptical.

You may find yourself getting frustrated because they assume that you got roped into a pyramid scheme.

We’ve already talked about the reasons that people believe this…

And I think we can all agree that people have a right to be sceptical.

But it will pose a challenge for you as you’re trying to build your network marketing team.

2 – Strained Personal Relationships

Don’t let this happen to you.

As you’re trying to make sales and recruit new Wellness Advocates, you will likely start to feel annoyed with your loved ones…

Because they’re not receptive to what you have to offer.

As we talked about earlier, network marketing is simply a numbers game.

If you talk to somebody about your business and they give you a resounding “NO!”, that’s OK!

Some will, most won’t. That’s OK, movin’ on!

That’s a quote from one of my previous mentors.

It really stuck with me because it drives home this point:

There is no need to get frustrated when somebody decides that your business opportunity is not a good fit for them.

Whether or not they’ve made a good decision is not for you to decide.

Everyone should take personal responsibility for themselves and we’re all free to make good or bad decisions for our own lives.

Don’t allow yourself to become agitated when one friend after another doesn’t show interest in your business.

It’s not worth losing friends over.

3 – Low Income Initially

As a new network marketer, you will start out way overworked and underpaid.

That is the reality of this business.

You will not earn a lot of money initially.

That’s a fact.

Most people drop out of the network marketing business because the business was misrepresented to them.

They were under the false impression that they were going to be earning a life changing amount of money very quickly.

And when they realised that wasn’t the case, they quit the business.

The only way to fail in network marketing is to quit.

Another quote from a previous mentor.

If you want to have staying power in this business, you must realise this and keep your expectations in check.

The true benefits of network marketing are long term.

This is not a get rich quick scheme.

It’s a viable, long term plan to build cash flow and wealth for decades to come.

doTERRA MLM PROS

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I am a fan of the network marketing business model.

While I try to lay out a balanced view of the business model by laying out the pros and cons…

I think this business can offer an excellent opportunity to those who are willing to learn, improve, and think long term.

So let’s talk about some of the pros of network marketing.

1 – Low Barrier To Entry

Unlike most other businesses, anybody can get started in network marketing without having to invest thousands of dollars.

You don’t need to buy a physical building…

Or equipment…

No need to hire staff…

With network marketing, anyone can get started for under a hundred bucks (depending on the company, of course).

It is one of the only business models that allows someone from the lower or middle class to build a 6 or 7-figure income…

Without investing thousands or millions of dollars.

2 – Can Be Done Part Time

There is no need for you to go all-in and quit your day job.

In fact, I recommend against it.

Instead, you can keep your current income and just build this business part time.

If for some reason it doesn’t work out for you, you’re not going to go bankrupt like you would if you put all your chips in one basket and started a restaurant for example.

3 – Can Be Done On The Internet

Network marketing is one of the easiest businesses to take online.

Especially these days.

The tools available to those of us who want to take our businesses online are just incredible.

It’s not like it used to be.

You don’t need to learn coding.

No need to build a website from scratch.

The tools are all available to us online and most of them are so cheap it boggles the mind.

And the education to learn how to do this is all available for free.

Welcome to the digital age.

Independent distributors have been known to become a bit too enthusiastic and make claims about their products that are unsubstantiated or outright false.

doTERRA vs REVIVE

REVIVE is a competitive essential oils brand.

Their business does not have the network marketing aspect to it so it does not provide the business opportunity that doTERRA does.

Product pricing is very similar to doTERRA.

doTERRA vs Melaleuca

This is a difficult call to make since their product quality and price seems to be very similar.

But if I had to choose, I would probably go with Melaleuca.

They have been around much longer and have been able to keep their reputation much higher than doTERRA.

doTERRA versus Young Living

These two companies produce very similar products.

As we discussed earlier, doTERRA was actually founded by former Young Living executives.

Although the doTERRA lawsuit of 2013 was ultimately overturned, Young Living executives were convinced that doTERRA had stolen trade secrets.

But in terms of product quality, they appear to be very similar.

Young Living essential oils are certainly more expensive, but they also own their own private farms where they grow their own ingredients.

doTERRA sources their ingredients from third parties.

Why doTERRA?

As I mentioned earlier, I like essential oils and use dietary supplements on a daily basis.

I have not personally tried any doTERRA products. I use a competitive brand that is much more established and has been much less controversial over the years.

But if you personally know someone who uses doTERRA products and recommends them, I would certainly not argue.

Their products appear to be carefully tested and quality control is certainly not an issue.

doTERRA Review Conclusion

summary meme

Let’s wrap this up…

As you can no doubt tell from reading this article, I have a bias towards the network marketing business model.

You read this article to help you make a decision as to whether or not doTERRA is a viable business opportunity.

So in conclusion…

doTERRA would not be my top pick.

Here’s why:

I do not have a passion for health and wellness or essential oils.

One of the first network marketing companies I ever joined was actually a health and wellness company.

It was a good company. They are well established and I had some very good leadership.

But I was never able to succeed in that business.

I never made more than 500 bucks.

And it’s because I was not passionate about the products I sold.

Listen…

doTERRA is a good company.

The compensation plan is lucrative. The company hasn’t experienced too much controversy like Herbalife or Amway. And the products appear to be high quality.

But if you are only looking at the business model and not taking into consideration whether or not you care about the products you’re selling…

You probably won’t get very far.

You have to believe in what you’re selling if you’re ever going to represent it with conviction.

So if you have a passion for health and wellness…

If you know other people who have had good experiences with doTERRA products…

And if you personally believe in the products…

Then I say go for it!

Reach out to the person who introduced you to the company and get started.

Just remember to keep your expectations in check.

It’s gonna be a lot of hard work.

If you’re gonna do it, you might as well give it your all.
